The Canada International Development Research Centre (IDRC) has awarded a grant
of CAD 15,000 to Canada Swahili Institute Inc to strengthen graduate students
exchange programs between universities in East Africa and Canada. The fund will
support visits by two graduate students from Kenya –one from Moi University,
Eldoret, and another from Jomo Kenyatta Institute of Agriculture and Technology
(JKUAT) in Nairobi to University of Manitoba and Public Health Agency of Canada.
“I am very happy to be considered for this opportunity,” says Leo Kosgei, a
computer-engineering student from Moi University on arrival to Canada. “This
international exposure will be very critical for the development of my career.”
Ask to comment on the chilling Manitoba early March temperatures that greeted
him on his arrival, Mr.Kosgei remarked, “International experience is not only
exposure to new technologies but also contact with everything from new cultures
to weather conditions.”
Mr. Kosgei will be undertaking his five-month studies in computer science under
Dr. Garry Domselaar of Public Health Agency of Canada.
