Canada Swahili Institute at Folklorama

Kenya youth dancers display in Folklorama (below) The Manitoba Folklorama, an annual popular summer event held in Winnipeg to showcase various world cultures had, this year (2008), the participation of representatives of various swahili speaking countries performing under the Africa Pavilion. Costumes for the Kenya dancers were donated by Canada Swahili Institute.

 

Sports Wear and Soccer Balls Donated by University of Manitoba

The District Youth and Sports Officer for South Nandi District in Kenya Mr. Dickson Amukotwa presents School children at Gambogi Primary School in Nandi South District with sports wear and soccer balls donated by students and staff of University of Manitoba. The Canada Swahili Institute facilitated the donations under promotion of sports for international development theme.

The Terik School Feeding Project

Canada Swahili Institute is supporting a pilot sustainable school feeding programs in 7 public primary schools in Terik location of Nandi Distict of Kenya through soliciting donations for leasing farms for schools, purchase of gas cookers, building kitchen and stores and construction of rain- water catchment tanks. The schools involved in the pilot are Kapsengere, Gambogi ,Kapko, Kipchemwon, Soi, Chepsis and Chepkurgung with a total student enrollment of 2,100. By 2007, 30% of the student populations were orphans.
